Is your laptop screen cracked, displaying colored lines, or completely black? Replacing an LCD screen is an affordable and accessible solution with the right tools and a little patience. Follow our step-by-step guide to successfully repair your laptop screen.
REQUIRED TOOLS
- A **precision screwdriver** (Phillips head)
- A **plastic prying tool** or a **thin card** to remove the bezel
- A **soft cloth** to avoid scratching the screen
- A **new compatible LCD screen** for your laptop
STEP 1: PREPARATION BEFORE REPLACEMENT
Before starting, **turn off your laptop and unplug it from the power source**. If possible, **remove the battery** to avoid electrical risks.
⚠️ Verify the Compatibility of the New Screen
Each LCD screen has a unique reference. To ensure compatibility, make sure the new screen has:
- The **same size** as the original screen
- The **same resolution**
- The **same type of connector (30 or 40 pins)**

STEP 2: REMOVING THE OLD SCREEN
1️⃣ Remove the Plastic Bezel
The plastic frame around the screen is usually held in place by clips and screws:
- Remove the screw covers located at the bottom of the bezel.
- Unscrew the screws securing the bezel.
- Use a plastic prying tool to carefully detach the bezel without breaking it.
2️⃣ Unscrew the LCD Panel
Once the bezel is removed:
- Gently tilt the screen forward.
- Unscrew the screws securing the panel to the side brackets.
- Lay the screen face down on the keyboard.
3️⃣ Disconnect the Video Cable
At the back of the screen, a **flat cable (LVDS or eDP cable)** is connected to the LCD panel:
- Carefully peel off the adhesive tape holding the cable.
- Gently pull on the connector to unplug it.
STEP 3: INSTALLING THE NEW SCREEN
1️⃣ Connect the New Screen
Plug the LVDS/eDP connector into the new screen, **ensuring it is properly inserted and secured with adhesive tape**.
2️⃣ Test Before Reassembling
Before screwing everything back:
- Plug your laptop into the power outlet without closing the screen.
- Turn it on and **check if the display appears correctly**.
If the screen remains black: check the cable connection and try restarting your laptop.
3️⃣ Secure the Screen and Reattach the Bezel
- Position the screen and reattach the screws on the side brackets.
- Reinstall the plastic bezel and press gently to snap the clips back in place.
- Screw in the screws and replace the screw covers.
